Garden Ravello Hotel + Ristorante is a place to unwind, to discover and enjoy. Ravello is one of the prettiest towns on the coast, with an irreplaceable personal vibe and exclusivity. The 10 -room hotel stays open until late November. Next to being a dreamy holiday destination, boasting unforgettable views, it’s a fantastic event venue too. Think: long table in the gardens ‚al fresco‘, with coastal views, the freshest seafood, cocktails by cousin Gerry, who’s passionate for his art of Mixology, and the genuine hospitality by the entire Garden Ravello family; the hotel is run by the warmest people who will go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable and unique.

Ravello

Spending time in Ravello is an experience that stays with you. For its beauty, for the warmth and little town feeling. It’s a place that you will want to come back to. People are helpful and friendly. Food is fresh. In Ravello you aren’t just a tourist; you mix with locals. It’s where genuine hospitality still exists. You’ll experience attention to detail and honest gourmet experiences; traditions that are embedded deeply in the local culture. Come here for the most beautiful views from cliffside gardens. You’ll be far away from the tinted reality you sometimes get at the more commercial places on the coast.

Ravello is a hidden treasure of the Amalfi coast. It’s a resort town set 365 meters above the Tyrrhenian Sea, yet connected to the water; via its views, the seafood and the activities offered. It’s where Jacqueline Kennedy used to spend her summer months when her daughter Caroline was little. In Ravello charm still exists. You are home. There is a village and family vibe. Connections of the locals. Places are untouched, views are incredible, the quality is exceptional.

Ok, perhaps our experience was even more blissful because we were staying at Garden Ravello. A hotel celebrating its 60 year anniversary this year, with a family history that goes way back. In its third generation now, it’s being fronted by the son of the original founder and his extended family. Marco is a passionate chef, sommelier, and lover of all things gourmet and dolce vita. His wife, sisters, nephews, such as mixologist and barista Gerry, and Rome-based Chiara who’s in charge of social media, and naturally son and co-owner Fabio, who is endlessly passionate about hospitality, attention to detail. Fabio studied hospitality in some of the best international schools and currently works for Waldorf Astoria in Dubai whenever he’s not at Garden Hotel Ravello. In fact one can see his 5-star input at the Garden Hotel greatly. His visions complement the place, and his family’s. Fabio has endless energy and passion and was the inspiring force behind our beautiful collaboration. Fabio, Marco and the whole team go out of their ways to make guests feel at home and your stay as enjoyable and convenient as possible. The family has connections all over Italy and will happily give you suggestions and set you up if you need some recommendations, even before and after your trip. Some of the guests in the 10-room hotel stay for months at the time. It really is a place where you feel like you become part of it. Many Hollywood stars in fact are coming here on a regular basis, appreciating mixing with locals at this authentic place. The Garden Ravello family has many friends in town and they know everything and everyone. Enjoy tailor- made trips and suggestions by the hotel for the best experience.

The Fish Bistro at Garden Ravello serves the freshest seafood delivered by a fisherman each morning. Choose traditional dishes with a modern twist. The raw fish tops high- end Sushi restaurants by far. For instance, choose sashimi platters with succulent prawns and local fish, or a whole Mormora sliced into a carpaccio that tases incredible.

Boat trip

Starting in Amalfi we embarked on the family boat for a fun trip with many stops and activities, including swimming in the grotto verde, Fiordo di Furore, and lunch on the boat overlooking picturesque Positano village. We also decided to shoot some 16 mm footage of the whole experience, so Alex sat on a blow up ring, attached to the boat with the Bolex camera on his lap. Stefano, a Mansi family friend, pulled him around in the water. It was so hilarious. Lunch was served on the water. The waiter boats of Nerano restaurant brought us Champagne soaked peach Bellini’s and fresh fish dishes. The ice cold Peroni on our salty lips have never tasted better before. Marco and Fabio somehow managed to keep it extremely cool for hours. Again, such attention to detail.

The family eats together

Once a day, before the lunch shift starts, the family and team meet to eat together at the long table in the main restaurant space. Everyone helps with the day to day running of the Hotel. Even the younger ones are already learning the ropes of the business.

Tradition, Culinary Variety, Elegance and History

The attention to detail and love for quality and tradition is in- bedded in the  spirit of Garden Ravello, Artisan practices to do with food, drink and craftmanship go back a long way. Ask for personalised activites and the team will happily put something together for you. Think: cooking classes, coffee making, hiking or a boat trip.

The Bar, run by Gerry

Gerry is absolutely passionate about the art of Cocktail making. He perfected his craft in London and Melbourne with the best in the industry, and is now back in Ravello to spoil the guests here. The bar terrace is often visited by locals until late. Gerry likes exchanging with international guests and create anything you wish for your tastebuds.

The Wine Cellar with wines selected by Sommelier Marco Mansi and son Fabio

Garden Ravello is known for their extensive wine cellar comprising 70 labels of white wines and sparkling wines. Despite being a fish restaurant they are proud to offer an even greater selection of red wines; over 70 different types! The team is happy to take you on a tour through their perfectly chilled cellar, if you feel like picking the wine for your gusto.

Letters from the White House – Caroline Kennedy’s playdates

Jacqueline Kennedy’s daughter Caroline used to play with the Mansi kids. They were dear friends during the summer months, when the Kennedy’s used to stay in Ravello. The picture on the right shows Jackie Kennedy with Anna und Vivianne on her lap as kids. On the next page are the two women as adults. The picture on the right was sent to the family by Jackie Kennedy. It shows a handwritten note from her. Another letter from the white house (above) was discovered in a box just recently. It’s a letter signed by little Caroline Kennedy thanking for the summer months spent together.

Coffee – Napoletan Espresso Making

One of Garden Ravello’s valuable possessions is a Pavoni coffee machine from Naples. I was wondering why the espressos here taste so excellent. Sometimes coffee is one of these things that many good Hotels don’t put enough attention to. Even though it’s so important! In order to make the perfect espresso, it is utmost important to use the right machine, the right coffee, grind, temperature etc. The crèma was incredible. If you want to learn more, take a coffee making class here next time you visit Ravello.

Design, Fashion and Art collaborations

Garden Ravello has a running collaboration with Gabor, Napoletan tailor and Armanda Malafronte, local Florist. You can shop in- house and get a consultation. The flowers decorate the property on a day to day basis, and when events take place here. The place hosts many brand, and fashion events, next to private celebrations.
