Last year we were testing Alfa Romeo Giulias, Jeeps and FIAT Pandas for their on-ice and snow performance. It was really fun. Horse carriages to dinner, Giulias spinning in the snow, Wrangler Rubicons mastering cross- country tracks and gourmet explosions by then Jeep ambassador Rene Schudel.

This year’s event in Samedan was a superbe experience again, with an incredible bunch of people and fantastic cars. We completed the winter training with the 4×4 Alfa Romeo models, including 10 brand new series Giulia and Stelvio 2020. After an introduction to the theory of driving dynamics, physics and safety, we tested the cars over 60,000 square meters of prepared snow and ice during the subsequent driving training. We competed against each other, and implemented avoidance and braking maneuvers, as well as controlled steering. I finally learned to use manual shifting when sharing the car with Arturo Merzario, former Formula One driver and legendary brand ambassador in Alfa Romeo’s racing history. Arturo convinced me, that in manual mode I would be able to drive much faster and better. Right he was! As far as I understand Italian he didn’t share many more comments about my driving skills and I am not sure whether that’s a good sign or not. Haha!! 

In my opinion the new series Alfa Romeos performed better on the snow than last years‘ older models. The drive-assist really pulled the cars into place when trying to slalom around the icy parcours. One could definitely feel the safety improvements. Some say, that this may be because I am a better driver this year. Perhaps there is some truth to it. After all I am a proud owner of an Alfa Romeo Stelvio myself now and drive it on a daly basis. 🙂 I LOVE THIS CAR…

All in all, I am ok to say that I am still happy with my previous Stelvio model and only the tiniest bit jealous of the new versions. Having said this, they are definitely an upgrade, especially in terms of safety and some improved features (see below), but I haven’t lost my love for my previous Alfa Stelvio yet and won’t for a long time. For me it’s still the best thing ever, especially the Dynamic Mode of its DNA System.The Dynamic turns my Stelvio into a race car in no time. For the ones who don’t know what I am talking about, you are missing out and I stop boring you now.

Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio model year 2020

Just a few weeks ago, Alfa Romeo presented the new models of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio model year 2020. Modernized with technological upgrades, they offer a particularly dynamic driving experience. Equipped with the latest infotainment system with touchscreen and a newly designed operating concept, they offer extended application options with networked service offers. Added to this are the latest electronic driver assistance systems and autonomous driving at Level II, which optimize driving comfort and safety while driving. The upgraded interior with high-quality materials promises an even more pleasant feel. The extended color scale takes up the tradition of the brand. The new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio have been available from Swiss dealers since early 2020, the new Giulia from CHF 40,900 and the new Stelvio from CHF 45,900.
